Hotel Quite Acceptable. Paris.

The Fripp family first visited Paris in 1957. France has, ever since, held a particular place in my heart. No longer quite at home in capital cities as when a younger man, the charm of Frenchness is nevertheless gaining a gentle hold of my sensibilities once again.

To this visitor, the French seem to feel no need to apologise for being French: they are who they are, and that is enough reason to be who they are. In contrast, for the English, Englishness is an attribute for which one constantly needs to apologise, even to make excuses.

From Curt's GC Diary for yesterday --

I wonder where the new talent in Guitar Craft is going to come from -- Evidently not North America.

Several possible responses --

1. There are periodic cycles of activity, and these are reflected in GC's centre of gravity moving to different locations at different times for different purposes. If one geographical region has predominantly new students, this suggests that another region has the opportunity to address the needs of more experienced Crafties.

For Crafty-lifers, subjects for consideration include:

the needs of family,
the synergies of community;
an appropriate level of GC challenge.

2. How to bring in new students?

This is not a concern for me: I am not a Guitar Craft evangelical nor missionary. If GC meets a need, people who recognise that need will come to it. If they have a need but don't yet recognise that need, they are not ready for GC.

Our proper focus is the quality of our work. If this is of value, it will resonate & act like a beacon. If no-one comes to us, this suggests:

our work is lacking; our moment has passed.

3. So, let's have an easier life!

17.30 From today's GC Diary of Sebastian Gomez, Chile:

I bumped into an important rock page that elected Robert Fripp as the best progressive musician of 2003 and TPTB the best Prog album --

Yow! Is this success or failure? Are those my only two options?
